Connections: Forging the Frontier of Health

Connection is at the heart of progress and innovation. Seldom are major achievements the work of individuals. Rather, teams built around coordinated and focused energy have, throughout history, advanced into new frontiers to explore, discover, build and grow.

Together, we gain the capacity to push forward against inertia. We harness the power of ideas and opportunity and advance — rethinking traditional boundaries and redefining the nature of the accepted frontier. Through connection, we gain strength.

This year, MHA’s Annual Convention will be in Kansas City, Mo. From America’s original Corps of Discovery to the city’s modern reputation for cutting-edge science, technology and health-focused discovery, Kansas City remains true to its frontier-pushing origins.

The 2024 convention features a lineup of speakers who will help us understand the environment, threats and opportunities, and where we can collectively improve — for our organizations and patients. Focused “Industry Insights” sessions featuring relevant health care-specific hot topics will ensure the best ideas and valuable networking opportunities are delivered to attendees.

This year’s convention will provide moments of inspiration and reflection. Additionally, there will be opportunities to renew existing connections and build new ones.

MHA is honored to act as host.

Integrating Birth Doula Support into Clinical Settings

Nov 14, 2024

Doula support across the pregnancy continuum has been shown to improve birth outcomes for both the mother and infant, and support a positive birth experience. Doula services now are reimbursable through various insurance providers, and there is an identified need to leverage additional workforce opportunities to support the reduction of maternal-infant morbidity and mortality in Missouri. Clinical providers and settings are well-positioned to integrate doula services into ambulatory and hospital-based settings of care to improve clinical, social and experience outcomes for both patients and the workforce; however, guidance for policy development, role clarity and alignment of goals is needed. This session will provide an opportunity to learn from health care teams that have integrated doula care into birth settings specifically, and to hear from doulas who are providing pregnancy, labor and postpartum support within these settings. Guidance will build upon the release of the “Integrating Birth Doulas Into Clinical Settings to Improve Birth Outcomes and Experience” resource by the Missouri Perinatal Quality Collaborative, in partnership with MHA.
